About Petra

A picture of the dance teacher, Petra, smiling.

Petra is a former professional Latin dancer, instructor, choreographer, and Latin and Ballroom dance judge. She has won many Ballroom competitions up to level A, and later specialised fully in Latin. After winning over 50 dance competitions across all levels up to level A, she achieved the highest international level in Latin-American dance.

Petra studied at Dance College with a specialisation in Latin and Ballroom, and trained with world-renowned masters including Alan Tornsberg, Vibeke Toft, Lyn Harmen, Marie and Alois Dvořák, Eva and Petr Bartunek, Radek Ostruvka, and Zdeněk Lansfeld. Petra was 1 of the first 12 professional dancers in Prague’s number one, Latino dance group Tradicion.

With 25 years of dancing and teaching experience, Petra pours her passion into every class. She wants everyone to have fun while gaining all the health benefits that dance brings — from improved posture, coordination, balance and cardio fitness, to better body alignment that helps avoid joint pain. Most importantly, Petra knows how much movement supports our mental health. The more we move, the better we feel — and everyone always leaves her classes with a smile!

Petra has been teaching Latin dance in UK over 15 years. She has had successful class attendance at Colchester Institute where she has been teaching classes for students and also Colchester Institute staff. Petra has been bringing Latin dance fun to various Primary schools too. The cardio classes that Petra called Latin aerobic she ran them at various fitness clubs: Fitness First, LA Fitness (today Everlast), Clarice house, (today Bannatyne), Gym 4 U, Anytime Fitness and many more. Today Petra’s classes are mainly based at Kingsland community centre, but Petra plans more fun events at different venues.

Fun facts: Petra danced in the historical film Pimpernel alongside Richard E. Grant and once performed a Latin show on the same stage as Boney M!
